Nine Lives Exhibition

"The acclaimed New Zealand artists known collectively as et al. are represented in all major public collections in New Zealand and have toured internationally in major exhibitions Headlands: Thinking through New Zealand art 1992 in Sydney and TOI TOI TOI: Three generations of artists from New Zealand 1999 in Germany. Over the last 30 years, this collective of artists has produced a poetic stream of imagery and writing that, with GPS precision, have consistently positioned members at the leading edge of contemporary New Zealand art."  from et al. abnormal mass delusions? catalogue brochure, 2003, Govett Brewster Gallery, New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Curator Robert Leonard writes, for the exhibition:

'...The et al. project has always existed in relation to modern information technology. It has incorporated hand-written and typewritten texts, photocopies, data scrolls in long archival boxes, 16mm films, video projections, screens, recorded television, recorded speech, portable record and CD players, personal computers and manipulated sound. Textual scraps from philosophers, from procedural registers for metaphysical reflection, or from brainwashing programmes appear on blackboards and clipboards like partial communications from "the other side"...'

Leonard's full wall text is displayed at the AAG during Nine Lives.
