Ralph Hotere

Born in Mitimiti, in 1931 of Aupouri descent. Hotere traveled to London to study at the Central School of Art in 1961 and returned to Dunedin as Francis Hodgkins Fellow at Otago University in 1969. He is a painter and a sculptor, and is known for his lifelong use of the colour black. His grounds include canvas, wood panel, glass, corrugated iron, and stainless steel.
