Anglican Church at Matauri Bay, 1985
Anglican Church at Matauri Bay, 1985, by Julian Dashper is a recent acquisition to the collection. Purchased at Webb's auction in September 2005, the painting is an oil, acrylic, pencil and pastel work on paper.
Dashper notes that the "horizontal red rectangle in the middle, flanked by the two vertical light blue rectangles, refers directly to the vision (from my memory at the time) of the small historic wooden church at Matauri Bay in Northland."
It is the earliest work of Dashper's in the Chartwell Collection and predates the series of study drawings for Dashper's major 1986 painting Cass Altarpiece that date from that same year.
